Cool Car Guy – “Cool Car Shot” – 2004 Mercedes E500 4MATIC

Hey Cool Car Fans,

04 E500 1These photos of a hard loaded 2004 E500 4MATIC that is currently owned by a former professional hockey player for the Colorado Avalanche came into my email box earlier today from the legendary Jim Reitz of JFR and Associates.

I’m told that this vehicle has been garage kept with only 15,750 miles on it and that it has many of the cool options that were available for the E500 in the 2004 model.

The E500 was built in Germany and not only looks cool, but is pretty darn fast for a full size luxury sports sedan. It has a 5.0 liter V8 engine that delivers 302hp to get this baby moving from 0 – 60 in just 5.92 seconds. It’s not the most fuel efficient vehicle, but you don’t really buy luxury sports vehicles for fuel economy do you? Still the E500 gets 16 – 24 mpg from it’s 24 valve v8 engine, which means that it should average around 20.

04 E500 1In addition, the E500 was designed with safety in mind since it came equipped with ABS brakes, front, passenger and side impact airbags, plus stability and traction control.

This particular E500 has the optional premium and entertainment packages along with the wonderful 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system, which is great for these crazy Colorado Winters. You can tell by the photos that these shots were taken before we were buried with four feet of snow.

As an added bonus, the manufacturer’s 4 year / 50,000 warranty is still in effect until January of 2008, which is four years from its in service date, giving whoever gets this unique vehicle a remaining one year original factory warranty from Mercedes Benz.

04 E500 3To see all the options that were available for the E500 in 2004 there is a great web page that lists them all at Consumer Auto Guide.

The original MSRP for the E500 4MATIC sedan, it also came in a wagon and an AMG model, was $58,825 in 2004, plus a slew of options, such as a command navigation feature bumped the price even further. The elegant lines of the Mercedes-Benz E500 make it look sharp ,and although I haven’t had the opportunity to take this sweet ride out for a test drive, I hope to get a chance to see it up close and personal very soon.

If you’re a fan of German made Mercedes-Benz vehicles the E500 is a definite winner and extremely cool.

Cool Car Guy – Cool Car Shot: 2005 Red BMW X5 4.8is

Hey Cool Car Fans,

BMW X5 Red 1I delivered some pretty cool cars in December of 2006 to clients, including this sweet, low mileage and hard to find, red BMW X5 4.8is just in time for Christmas.

This car is really cool, super fast and a blast to drive. The X5 is based on the mid-size 5-Series sedan platform with the X5 being the larger of BMW’s two Sports Activity Vehicles or SAVs. The X3 is based on the smaller 3-Series platform and I delivered several of those vehicles as well this past year, but the X5 is the “Mac Daddy” of the two BMW’s.

BMW X5 Red 2In 2005, this vehicle had a base MSRP of $68,800 and I’ve seen them loaded for as much as $96,500! This baby had it all, including the $1,800 Navigation option, which is always a nice feature on a high-end vehicle. Standard features on the 4.8is in 2005 were a 6-speed automatic transmission, digital compass mirror, panorama moon roof, rear door window sun blinds, ski bag, heated rear seats, park distance control, rain sensor, adaptive headlights, and a premium sound system. There were dozens of other features and amenities on this baby – it lacks nothing!

Under the hood in this X5 is a 4.8-litre, 355-hp, 32-valve, V-8 engine making 369 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm. Valve lift is controlled by the Valvetronic system eliminating the need for a throttle butterfly.

BMW X5 Red 3Electronically controlled valve timing is done through the Double-VANOS system, flattening the torque curve, minimizing fuel consumption and reducing emissions. This is one of the reasons why the 4.4 and 4.8 litre engines are as good on gas mileage as the smaller 3.0 liter without having to sacrifice performance. In 2007, BMW has eliminated the 4.4 and is only offering the X5 in the 3.0 liter and the 4.8 liter engines.

The new owners will need to make sure that they use Premium fuel in the 24.3-gallon tank that will give them about a 400-mile range, but that shouldn’t matter. Not when you can go from 0 to 60 in about 5.9 seconds, which is almost as fast as my 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX and the X5 has a top speed that is listed at 153 mph. The X5 4.8is gets between 16 and 21 mpg, which means that they should average around 18.5 mpg and that’s pretty darn good for a vehicle of this size.

Bottom line on the 2005 BMW X5 4.8is is that it’s an extremely cool car.

Cool Car Shot – Black 2006 Ford Mustang GT

Hey Cool Car Fans,

05Mustang1I was getting my car washed the other day at the Water Waves car wash in Littleton and I met a guy, Paul, who was driving a sweet 2006 Ford Mustang GT.

I asked Paul to email me some photos of his car and he sent me the following photo shoot that he had taken this Fall.

The car is really cool, but check out those spooky looking trees as well. What a great setting for a black 2006 Mustang with red leather interior!

Paul is from Arkansas where he said that his Mustang performs much better because of the altitude, so he’s having his vehicle chipped and putting in a cold air intake for a performance increase while driving in Colorado.

05Mustang2

In our brief conversation at the car wash, he brought up the point that if he were to have the modifications performed outside of a Ford dealership it would void the manufacturer’s warranty. With that in mind, make sure you check your manufacturer’s warranty requirements before you start making upgrades to your newer vehicle.

I have another post on CoolCarGuy.com of a 2005 Ford Mustang GT that I delivered to a client earlier this year. You might want to check out that cool car as well.

If you are a Mustang enthusiast be sure and check out the MustangBlog where they have all things Mustang. This week they are reporting that the Shelby GT-H that Ford made for Hertz is going on the auction block. I can confirm that this is true. I saw 12 of them lined up yesterday at the Denver Auto Auction when I was out there bidding on a vehicle and they should be going in the Ford sale next week. I have a client who wants one and they are sure to go for all the dough.

The new body style on the Mustang is pretty darn cool and they are a blast to drive!

GM Highwire Video On YouTube

Hey Cool Car Fans,

GM LogoIn case you missed the video of GM’s $5 million Highwire “Car of the future“, a client of mine emailed the link to me today and asked me to post it at CoolCarGuy.com Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby movie download . He also made the following comment and asked a very good question… This is absolutely fascinating to me! Why is it so many years off…?”

For $5 million quid I would hope that this vehicle would be cool. The body style is something to be desired and looks too much like a Toyota Prius. GM probably can’t afford to put a vehicle like this into production because the cost of the proto-type was so high. Also, where are you going to fill-up a car like this? It’s not like there are hydrogen filling stations on every corner, which is the biggest problem for most alternative fuels. Even the growing E-85 alternative is only available at a few locations in Colorado.

Until McDonald’s and the fast food restaurants realize that they can be creating another profit center from their real estate locations, we will all continue to be at the mercy of the oil companies.

On another note, General Motors has recently announced that it plans to dump its line of mini-vans and rely on cross-over vehicles like the Saturn Outlook, Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia. This is a pretty giant leap forward for the automotive giant without introducing a new concept vehicle like the “Highwire” into mass production. However, it will be pretty cool when a vehicle like this finally becomes available ten or so years from now.

Subaru AWD vs The Competition

Hey Cool Car Fans,

I was talking with a friend of mine the other day at a local Subaru dealership about some of the AWD vehicles on the market today and he was telling me how Subaru’s AWD technology beat out the competition.

Craig started telling me about a video that they had to watch as part of their training about the benefits of Subaru’s AWD system compared to similar vehicles.

I located the training video at Google and it’s about 11 minutes in length, but pretty darn impressive. When I told Craig that I found the video, he said, “No, way. You know John, I actually got to tackle that hill in the vehicles shown on the video.” I thought that was pretty cool, so I asked him if he was in the video and he said, “Come on, I’m not that cool.”.

Check out the video and let me know, if you agree that the Subaru AWD system is pretty impressive in this video.
